This course, offered to undergraduate students at Tufts University in the academic year 2016-2017, develops analytical tools and models to understand open economies and the international economy and to evaluate developments and policy choices in a financially integrated world.
Topics covered include the determination of macroeconomic variables such as GDP, employment, the price level and interest rates, the balance of payments and exchange rates. It also analyses the role of monetary and fiscal policy in open economies and the functioning of international capital markets, international macroeconomic interdependence and the international monetary system, emerging and developing economies and financial crises.
